M. ALEX ROE
Alex Roe is a trial attorney at Austin Roe Basquill P.A., where he represents plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury, premises liability, and wrongful death litigation. Much of his personal injury practice involves bodily injury and uninsured/underinsured motorist claims arising from motor vehicle accidents. His experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants gives him a practical understanding of how cases are evaluated, litigated, and resolved.
Alex’s interest in trial advocacy began early, as he grew up watching his father practice as a trial attorney. That interest was reinforced during his legal internship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. At the same time, his accounting background drew him to the transactional side of law, which he pursued after law school at Shutts & Bowen LLP, one of Florida’s largest law firms. While there, Alex advised developers, contractors, suppliers, design professionals, and owners on commercial, retail, residential, and healthcare development projects. He also represented businesses and entrepreneurs in mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, business formation, corporate governance, and matters involving Florida tax liabilities. Ultimately, Alex chose to focus his practice on litigation, bringing to each case the analytical skills and attention to detail sharpened through his legal and accounting education and transactional experience.
Alex graduated first in his class, summa cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. During law school, he served as Managing Editor, Tutoring Chair, and Community Service Chair of the Florida Law Review. He received Book Awards in Appellate Advocacy, Legal Drafting, Legal Writing, Evidence, Civil Procedure, Secured Transactions, and Accounting for Lawyers. He was also honored with the Irving Cypen Freshman Award, the D.T. Smith Outstanding Associate Editor Award, the W.D. Macdonald Prize, and a Community Service Certificate of Outstanding Achievement.
Alex is also a “Triple Gator,” having earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accounting from the University of Florida’s Fisher School of Accounting before attending law school. He received the Richard E. Darby Fellowship and the William E. Crown Family Fellowship for outstanding performance in accounting.
Outside the office, Alex enjoys Florida Gators football, playing guitar, barbecuing, tasting bourbon, strength training, and traveling. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. A lifelong dog lover, Alex has rescued four dogs over the years: two strays, one shelter dog, and another that needed a new home.
